In the centre of Bergamasco, in the Monferrato area, an enchanting aristocratic palace stands on the town's medieval defence walls. The building is named Castello dei Marchesi Moscheni in memory of the noble family that had it built in 1600 and lived there for several centuries.
The building consists of a single building body, facing south onto the ROOF GARDEN, built on the medieval wall with round arches above. The garden, in the shape of a quadrilateral, occupies a total area of approximately 430 square metres and contains various plant species. The building complex still retains two towers, one adjacent to the palace and the other on the wall on the opposite side of the garden where there is also an ancient well.
The building is distributed over SIX LEVELS: two above ground floors, two mezzanine floors, an attic and a basement, with a total area of approximately 1250 square metres, of which approximately 800 are currently residential.
On the GROUND FLOOR there is a splendid portico with columns and frescoed ceilings, through which one enters fascinating rooms, elegantly furnished, such as the billiard room, the dining room, the room with the fireplace and the bright traditional kitchen. An internal corridor leads to the marquises' private church, characterised by 17th-century decorations.
A wide staircase with frescoed walls provides access to the FIRST FLOOR of the palace. Here we find various rooms: the reception hall, library, study, music room, two rooms and a bathroom. Some of the aforementioned rooms have southern views of the countryside. Inside the tower there is a spiral staircase, used in the past by the service staff, which allows one to ascend from the ground floor to the first floor and the attic.
The two mezzanine floors are currently used for SLEEPING AREAS. On the first mezzanine there is a suite with terrace and bathroom. On the second mezzanine there are three bedrooms and two bathrooms.
The main staircase leads to the large ATTIC FLOOR, from which there is access to a panoramic terrace. The rooms on this floor are very spacious and could therefore be converted into residential areas, creating an attic with several bedrooms, bathrooms and service rooms. The roof is in excellent structural condition; there are numerous dormer windows with an unobstructed view of the valley.
Finally, there is the basement, where we find the striking CELLARS with barrel vaults made of old brick.
Some renovations were carried out between the end of the 19th and the beginning of the 20th century.
Since the second half of the last century, the Marquis's Palace has been the dwelling of the stage designer Carlo Leva, who used his expertise to make the most of it.
A careful restoration of the property would allow for the realisation of an exclusive boutique hotel or a fine relais.
The furniture, with separate valuation, could remain inside the palace.
In addition to the sought-after furniture and furnishings, the palace has for several decades housed the collection of sketches and artwork that Carlo Leva produced during his 60-year film career. Also preserved are numerous objects and sets he created, working with directors such as Sergio Leone and Dario Argento, and used by actors such as Claudia Cardinale in Once Upon a Time, Clint Eastwood in The Good, the Bad and the Ugly, and many other timeless artists of Italian and international cinema.

The Palazzo Marchionale is located in Bergamasco, a small village in the foothills of Monferrato (which with the Langhe and Roero has made Piedmont famous throughout the world), a quarter of an hour from the motorway toll booths and about an hour from the airports of Turin and Genoa, just over an hour from Milan and an hour and a half from Malpensa international airport.
