The Single Villa, in the center of the city, is spread over two comfortable levels, surrounded by a large and well-kept garden. From Via Lucana the stone house reveals its clear architecture, modulated between full and empty spaces. The facade, overlooking Via Lucana, shows the original character of the roof, made of laminated wood. Each wall surface of the house is covered with 20x40 cm stone ashlars. Basic module that configured the sequence and design sizing of the holes. The triangular morphology of the urban lot, on which the ET house stands, has delineated three specific urban edges. The first, the one overlooking the ancient Appian Way, evokes the "belvedere terraces" of the suburban houses of the Italian landscape tradition. The remaining two, however, border two minor urban streets. The first coincides with the historical location of the Ridola local road, while the second marks the road margin of the Guido Dorso climb. The three urban edges are configured as non-marginal materials of the project. The front facing the Via Lucana (coinciding with the site of the ancient Via Appia) is configured as an open front, marked with tuff stems and stone inserts. A "stone sign", made of Gravina tuff, was placed at the vertex between the two roads, local Ridola and Guido Dorso climb (one pedestrian, the other vehicular). It is a formal solution, an urban sign that emphasizes the intersection between the two streets. It is a way to critically dialogue with the history of places. The ET house was designed and built in the two-year period 1994 1996 It's a solid, well-built house. The RC structure is based on a point system of underground poles. The ET house extends over two floors. From the garden you access the dining/living room spaces and the kitchen room. The latter is in direct contact with the shady pergola-garden. The suggestive skyline of the Barisani stones intertwines with the living spaces of the house. Unique urban perceptions that cross the openings of the project between inside and outside. From the continuous glass window on the first floor the observer's gaze dialogues with the urban history of Matera. The living room area, at a higher level than the garden level, is covered by a laminated wood vault. The basic furnishing system was created with varied components (wood, metal), not standard. The sleeping area, located on the upper floor, is screened by an equipped boiserie wall. These are three bed rooms, served by two bathrooms, equipped with designer wooden components.
