DESCRIPTION OF THE BUILDINGS, STATE AND FINISHES
The hotel (935 sqm – 10,061 sqft, 21 bedrooms and 24 bathrooms) is laid over four floors in total. On the ground floor are the common areas of the facility, which include the reception area, several guest lounges, the professional kitchen with pantry and employee bathroom, two large breakfast (or restaurant) rooms, a spacious veranda (85 sqm) the guest bathrooms, a private office (with independent access from outside), and a bar. Then, in a separate wing on the ground floor with separate access, are the first two bedrooms with private bathrooms. Descending to the basement a staircase leads to the historic cellars, consisting of a series of brickwork rooms with characteristic vaulted ceilings.
Going up to the second floor, via stairs and/or elevator, we reach the actual sleeping area of the hotel with thirteen bedrooms, all with private bathrooms. Finally, going further up, we find eleven more bedrooms with private bathrooms and the spacious rooftop sunbathing terrace (90 sqm).
The building originally dates back to the 12th century, when it was just a watchtower. Converted into an elegant country villa over the years, the structure was entirely renovated in 2003 when the hotel opened. Wherever possible, efforts were made to maintain the charm of the original building, preserving, for example, the typical wooden beams and the beautiful historic cellars. The terracotta floors have been recreated according to the original appearance while the walls are painted in soft colors in some rooms or very bright in others, either way ensuring warm and welcoming environments.
Right next to the hotel is a cozy guesthouse (125 sqm – 1,345 sqft, 3 bedrooms and 3 bathrooms), once a barn now converted into a residence. The building is made up of a spacious living area with kitchen and three bedrooms with private bathroom (one of these accessed directly from outside).
EXTERIORS
The hotel is enriched by roughly 4.0 hectares (9.9 acres) of well-manicured park surrounded by Vernaccia vineyards. Just below the building, in a very panoramic and retired position, is the 16 × 8 m swimming pool surrounded by a terracotta-paved sunbathing area. The pool is placed in such a way that in every moment one can enjoy a stunning view of San Gimignano's towers.
The guesthouse features its own private patio (paved with terracotta tiles), ideal for pleasant and relaxing al fresco moments.
