During the Wilhelminian period, the German middle class became prosperous and wealthy. This development did not stop at Heiligendamm either. While the demands of guests in Heiligendamm were originally limited to nature, the lake, art and the forest, quickly accessible shopping and services were now also in demand. In order to make room for several retail and service shops, the approximately 50-meter-long, two-story plastered building with its Doric row of columns in front and its flat gable roof was built. The architectural style is characterized by the colonnade, which can already be found in Greek architecture in the second half of the 5th century BC. The classicists of the 19th century adopted this style. It is probably the most important architectural element of the colonnades, which were completed in 1874. The colonnades became an essential part of Heiligendamm's infrastructure. There was a bookshop, a fashion store, small restaurants, a perfumery, a hairdresser, a shop selling bathing products and a few other shops here. Strolling through the shops brought Heiligendamm to life. It is important to us to preserve the structural fabric of the colonnades and to renovate them carefully. This primarily concerns the external appearance with the columned hall in front, the horizontal profiles and the surrounding cornices. All windows and doors will also be rebuilt and replaced in wood and in accordance with the historical appearance in shape, size and profile. On a total area of around 4,000 m², nine townhouses with 3 to 5 bedrooms and bathrooms on living space between 292 and 472 m² are being built in the colonnades. As part of the renovation, the building will be extensively built with a basement and supplemented on the south side by a room level and open spaces on each floor. Spacious roof terraces will be created on the roofs. Only high-quality materials are used in this renovation, reconstruction and extension of the colonnades: including valuable floor coverings, natural stone in the bathrooms and high-quality interior doors. Ceiling heights of more than three meters create the framework for a representative ambience. A remote-controlled gas fireplace and fiber optic cable for a high-performance internet connection are also part of the equipment. Each individual house has a high-quality fitted kitchen, underfloor heating and lattice windows made of selected wood with thermal insulation glazing. Fencing, access control and discreet video surveillance secure the entire ensemble.
