Holiday home on Crete in a quiet location for relaxation Grigoria is a mountain village south of the Psiloritis Mountains and is located about 65 km southwest of the capital Heraklion (Crete). It has about 173 inhabitants and is located 406m above sea level. It takes about 30 minutes (22km) to get to the coast to Agia Galini and 32 minutes (23km) to get to Matala (on the coast, with the famous sandstone caves). The town of Vori (also Voroi) with good local amenities (grocery stores, bakery, butcher, pharmacy, cafes) is about 10 km away. The largest town in the Messara plain is Mires (also Moires) with just over 6,000 inhabitants. It is about 19km away. Here you will also find doctors and banks. With an area of 8,336 sq km (more than twice the size of Mallorca) and 1,066 km of coastline, Crete is also the fifth largest island in the Mediterranean with over 600,000 inhabitants. The landscape is diverse. In addition to long sandy beaches, rural villages, cliffs, pastureland, archaeological sites and mountainous plateaus (highest peak 2,456 m), there are of course also lively coastal regions with tourist resorts and large cities. The capital Heraklion is in the north of the island. This is also where the airport most frequently flown to from Germany is located (duration about 3 hours). Another airport is in the northwest near Chania. Greek taverns not only reflect the simple and healthy food, but also the chilled and Mediterranean lifestyle. The weather on Crete favors this lifestyle. The island is divided into different climatic zones. Summer is hot and dry, especially on the south coast. Winter is usually quite mild.
