The fortress built at the beginning of the year 1200, for a long time a fiefdom of a branch of the noble Roman family of the Colonnas, as well as a cultural treasure of the Roero.
After various Savoy sieges (1389 and 1487) the Castle was modified between 1585 and 1617, and then rebuilt in 1870.

Founded as a collateral event to the Harvest Festival, in 1928 the Alba Truffle Fair has assumed, over time, the appearance of a great event, of national importance. Every year, the organizers of the Fair donate the best specimen of truffle to a famous person, invited to the spot. Among the guests of the Fair Joe Di Maggio, Alfred Hitchcock, Ugo Tognazzi, Alain Delon, Gérard Depardieu and many others. In 2007 the event obtained the title of International Alba White Truffle Fair. Alongside the Fair, numerous cultural and spectacular events take place in various parts of the city.
