This villa represents one of the best examples of Lucca architecture
of country villas which, among the few, is characterized by the choice of
new solutions and forms compared to the traditional and repeated schemes of XVI century origin as can be seen from the definition of the elevations and in the
the presence of the loggia which concludes the main façade (in the central area of
the façade, higher than the rest). This part of the building, which is sometimes
also called the "belvedere" is concluded by intermediate columns, which follow a relatively widespread architectural solution in the seventeenth century and which will continue in the following century as in the case in question, when the abbot Pier Francesco Benassai, had the upper central part of the facade
raised with the aforementioned loggia and, having removed the pre-existing external staircase, then had the entrance portal, the ashlar cladding of the ground floor still present today and the regular pattern of the string course
frames and dividing bands made. between the three parts.
The pre-existing back porch was then closed off and the ceiling and walls
of the great room on the first floor were embellished with shots and landscape views.
The enormous vastness of this great room embodies all the depth of the house :
thanks to the three large windows on the opposite north and south sides, this
room "crosses" the main facades of the villa, allowing you to enjoy splendid
views of the surrounding gardens.
The building is spread over three levels connected internally by stairs. THE
ground floor made up of nine rooms, as well as two toilets and a closet; THE
first floor living room, four rooms and three toilets; the second floor,
on two staggered levels (the central part above the hall is higher),
consists of eight rooms plus closets, a toilet and a portico closed on three sides.
