Placed on rough rocks that dominate the Marecchia Valley, this medieval castle for sale enjoys of a 360° view on its surroundings in Emilia Romagna. This 12th-century property was originally a church and then became a noble home. Ten years ago the castle underwent renovation works bringing to light its old splendour and becoming a relais. Its three levels host a large, modern restaurant and a hotel with 13 en-suite bedrooms equipped with air-conditioning system. The upper floor is occupied by a big living room offering a wonderful panoramic view.
This estate measures 3000 sqm overall and is surrounded by 6 hectares of park and woods. The native structures of the fortress have partly fallen and now we find only a part of the fortress, the door with two towers, a cistern and part of the walls. A legend tells that near the Fortress Gianciotto Malatesta was slain in 1304. He, some years before, killed his wife Francesca and his brother, Paolo, the lovers celebrated by Dante. The actual renovation project foresees the recovery and the valorisation of this fortress, which is very important for the local history and could become home to a congress centre, a fitness centre and a luxury home.
