Automobile : Porsche Cayman S
The new 6-cylinder sports coupé will take to the roads next autumn.
It will take to the roads next autumn, so you’ll have to show patience until then. But it’ll be worth it. Proof in words and images…
Here comes Porsche’s brand new 6-cylinder sports coupé. A dynamic 2-seater endowed with all the assets to play the starring role. Take a closer look. It bears the manufacturer’s signature with justifiable pride. Its original styling differentiates it from the Boxster and Carrera 911 models ; it’s certainly a roadster, but in a more athletic manner than its predecessors. The front, for example, benefits from air ducts of generous dimensions and main headlights with an oval shape. Its anti-fog system, incorporated into the exterior air ducts, is a clear reminder of the brand’s philosophy. And while the overall line benefits from a long wheelbase, the rear slopes downwards to endow the Cayman S with a splendid silhouette, in which the arched side windows also play their part.
With its completely new design, the passenger compartment is dressed up in a brand new palette of colours. As in the coachwork, one finds clean elongated lines, noble fabrics and top-notch ergonomics. The Cayman S goes right to the heart of the matter. And nothing disturbs the driver’s movements ; he becomes one with the car. As for storage, the designers have made the most of every cubic centimetre. The rear trunk (260 litres) is easily accessible thanks to a particularly wide opening. What comes as a surprise is the trunk at the front (150 litres) and other very practical storage elements inside the car.
The standard version of the Cayman S is equipped with a PSM regulator (Porsche Stability Management) ; if you want to benefit from PASM (Porsche Active Suspension Management), you have to order it as an option. What is it exactly ? A body 10 millimetres lower and automatic adaptation of shock absorption depending on your driving style. The driver opts for the “Normal” or “Sport” button on the central console. Finally, there’s the Porsche VarioCam Plus distribution system which, until now, only existed on the 911 range. Today, the Cayman S benefits from it too ; transmission is handled by a mechanical gearbox with six speeds which has been perfected to offer short deflections and exemplary precision. The automatic 5-speed Tiptronic S gearbox also comes as an option. It enables you to change gear via a control situated on the spokes of the driving wheel. And to suit the new Porsche sports coupé, it has been treated to special adjustment and a totally new hydraulic and electronic control. Price : from 61,078 €.
