Class S AMG, high-performance saloon
Twelve cylinders to its credit, twin-turbo supercharging and 630 horsepower... The new Mercedes-Benz is certainly not lacking in character. Focus on a model which is a wonderful illustration of the “Driving Performance” slogan. By Laetitia Rossi
With a V12 biturbo 6.0 litre engine under the hood, the saloon complies with the Euro 6 anti-pollution standard and offers reduced fuel consumption. Surging from 0 to 100 km/hr in just 4.3 seconds, its electronically limited maximum speed is close on 250 km/hr. It has a Road Surface Scan function as standard, allowing the drive assembly to foresee irregularities of the road and prepare for them. A setting which can be personalized depending on whether you opt for comfort or a more sporty configuration.
“Dynamic” and “exclusive” are the key-words for this latest version. As evidenced by the design of its classic architecture, clean lines and flowing silhouette. The V12 radiator grille, heavily sculpted with a chrome finish, contributes to its powerful aura. Luxury is also very much on the cards inside the Class S AMG : top-quality materials, Nappa leather upholstery, perforated sport seats clad in leather. The Exclusive pack includes Nappa leather roof lining and and a similarly clad dashboard. The instruments offer sensual roundness. The S 65 AMG proposes two innovative items : head-up display providing, among other things, the speed, sat-nav and road signs, without the driver having to take his eyes off the road, and a touch screen which, like a smartphone or tablette, facilitates use of the car radio, telephone and sat-nav.
In this model, active and passive security control is known as “Intelligent Drive”. On the programme, night-vision assistance and the rear “Pre-Safe” which anticipates collisions, triggering systems designed to cushion the shock.
Recently presented at the Los Angeles and Tokyo motor shows, the S 65 AMG wil be available on the market as from March, 2014.
