FULL MARKS FOR TESLA

Just released : according to Jato Dynamics, the Tesla Model Y was the world’s best-selling car in 2023. A major achievement for an all-electric vehicle, and a ranking often monopolized by Toyotas. More than ever, ecological transition is well on its way in the world of automobiles.

1.23 million Model Ys were sold in the space of 12 months. Topping the chart in 2022, Toyota’s RAV4 took second place in the 2023 ranking, just in front of the Corolla. In addition to its aura, the Model Y owes this remarkable rise, of about 64 % in one year, to its lowered price.

255,000 registrations in Europe, 385,900 on its home market - despite its reluctance to favour all-electric cars -, and 456,000 in China. With over 37,000 registrations, the Model Y took 8th position in France. Both visionary and provocative Elon Musk had announced the model’s success back in 2021. A prediction come true thanks to a highly aggressive pricing policy. Showing no intention of taking a pause on such a fine path, Tesla’s ambitious founder intends to sell 30 million Teslas a year by 2030.

Capable of taking over 2,100 litres of cargo on board, the Model Y posts a range of 533 km. “Largely sufficient to cover trips such as Paris-Rotterdam, Munich-Vienna, Lisbon-Seville or Geneva-Milan,” notes the American manufacturer. Remote locking, shared keys and even surveillance, the phone delivers all these functions. Safety is a priority. Warning of head-on collision, active emergency braking, and avoidance of lane departure are all standard. Games, films and music are within hand’s (or rather screen) reach, with the central 15-inch touchscreen. The all-glass roof gives an airy, open feel. A promise of driving beneath an azure-blue sky or the stars !
