Lamborghini Murciélago LP 670-4 Super Veloce
The Murciélago is still the Italian brand’s best-known symbol. With the last-born, you can expect yet more enhancements : more powerful, lighter, faster. Warm-up lap...
If Lamborghini wanted to enrich its range with an exceptionally purist flagship model, it has reached its goal. By honing the Murciélago, the car with the famous bull logo has reached new peaks. This super-sports model, of which only 350 copies will be released, from May 2009 to April 2010, has an out-of-the-ordinary structure ; a composite assembly of hyper-rigid carbon fiber components and a tubular steel chassis, as for racing cars. Thanks to the new high-strength steel profile, the engineers who recalculated the frame have obtained 12 per cent of additional torsional rigidity for the chassis, and a reduction of 20 kilos, which contributes significantly to the decrease of 100 kilos in the car’s total weight. They have also revamped the design, modifying the front and rear of the car, proposing a new engine hood and offering two aerodynamic configurations, characterized by a small or large rear spoiler. The result is that the Murciélago LP 670-4 Super Veloce is broad, low, with a very advanced cockpit and a long, extended rear. The interior, a blend of luxury, elegance and high-tech, is like a “unique panorama”. The doors in elytre open up to reveal a world of Alcantara and carbon fiber : standard bucket seats with sturdy support for the hips and shoulders, a dashboard and sky roof made of microfiber (with a “Y” motif for supreme refinement) and carefully studied colour choices, with matte white and black as options, or yellow, orange and grey. The 670 hp V12 engine has shed about 12 kilos, thanks in particular to a brand new exhaust system. The silencer has been redesigned and the exhaust nozzle is made of new and lighter materials. But above all, it is the noise experience that makes an inspection worthwhile : according to the manufacturer, from the dull rumbling of a stormy night, it passes to the roar of an angry lion and ends with the trumpeting of stampeding elephants. An entire opera score for 12 cylinders, 48 valves and 8,000 revolutions per minute.
