Last generation Porsche 911 Turbo and Turbo S
Half a century ago, the 911 made its appearance at the Frankfurt Motor Show. Ten years later, the first prototype of the 911 Turbo saw the light of day. On the occasion of the 40th anniversary of this now legendary model, Porsche is presenting the new generation of the 911 Turbo and Turbo S. By Laetitia Rossi
Perfect on the road, the technology incorporated into the latest models is worthy of racing circuits. "A new all-wheel drive system, active rear axle steering, adaptive aerodynamics, full LED headlights and a 6-cylinder Boxer engine with twin turbochargers capable of delivering up to 560 hp", proudly claims the German manufacturer. The lighter and longer chassis does not pass unnoticed by experienced fans. Just like the active anti-roll system, offered for the first time on 911 Turbo models. While their motorisation ensures improved performance, their fuel consumption of around 9.7 l per 100 km is lower, as are CO2 emissions, now reduced from 270 g/km to 227 g/km. The cars attain 100 km/hr in 3.2 and 3.1 seconds, with a top speed of 318 km/hr. Porsche's latest achievement is even visible physically, as exemplified by the rear body panels which are 28 mm wider than on the Carrera 4. The cars have rear wheel steering to thank for their improved agility. They in fact turn, maneuver and park more easily. And the engine cuts off at traffic lights.
Purists will appreciate the continuity of the design, even if dimensions have changed over the years, starting with those of the tyres. The latest version offers a powerful silhouette, sculptured as if with a scalpel, set on 20-inch wheels. Though it is perhaps the interior, inspired by the 911 Carrera family, which best conveys the feeling of exclusiveness for Porsche owners. The S version is particularly well-equipped : a two-tone interieur in black and red, Sport Plus seats with memory, 18-way adjustment and leather backs. The Bose audio system is installed as standard, with Burmester available as an option. The adaptive speed regulator measures the distance between the Porsche and the vehicle just in front. Camera-based road sign recognition and speed limit recognition are also available as optional features. Arriving on the market in September, the 911 Turbo is priced from 163,919 €, the Turbo S from 197,288 €.
