Maserati Quattroporte Sport GT S, a worthy heir

With this new model, Maserati proves that it needs to be reckoned with on the market for high-performance luxury sedans. The Trident still has a rosy future to look forward to.

Just 70 years ago, Maserati won its first victory at Indianapolis. The release of the Quattroporte Sport GT S naturally coincides with this anniversary and takes on an extra dimension in the world of automobiles. Crisis ? Maserati cocks a snook at the idea with its successor to the Quattroporte S, strongly emphasizing the pleasure of driving combined with comfort and luxury for the interior. What makes it different from its predecessor ? First, the configuration of its V8 4.7 l engine, which now offers 323 kW, or about 432 hp. In order to justify its status as a top-notch sports car, the gearshift management software has been redesigned to guarantee the driver more enjoyment behind the wheel. The front and rear suspensions have been fitted with shock absorbers with specific settings, also in the interest of sportiness, and the engine emits a throatier and more characteristic noise, thanks to the use of pneumatic valves. The result : at low revs, the Quattroporte Sport GT S has a deeper sound which becomes more of a roar as the revs increase. A detail, maybe, but an important one ! As for design, the Quattroporte Sport GT S boasts a red trident on its black grille and an even more aggressive allure. Its new headlights with metallic titanium finish and its concave radiator with black grille are typical features. Ditto for the rear, with its two oval exhausts. Finally the interior, which blends top-quality materials with an extremely sporty look. The dashboard trims are in Titantex, a composite “titanium-coloured” material, while the new M-design wrap-around seats (racy yet again) come in leather and alcantara. For an exceptional car, exceptional racing brakes. The Quattroporte GT S’s braking system uses innovative disk technology. Unlike those traditionally used, in cast iron, they are made of two materials, cast iron and aluminum, thus optimizing braking performance ; performance further improved in extreme cases, notably thanks to higher resistance to temperature. A car described as beautiful, even sexy, which is in fact simply Italian.
