Porsche 911 GT3 RS
When one takes a closer look at the sports car section, the borderline between track and road performance is gradually receding. With the 911 GT3 RS, Porsche crosses it with delectation. As observed at Geneva’s International Motor Show...
Endowed with technology worthy of racing circuits, this new model promises peace of mind under all circumstances. On the programme : a brand new engine block, aerodynamic design and lightweight construction. Largely enough to ensure performance superior to that of the 911 GT3. This thoroughbred takes 9 seconds less to complete the northern loop of the Nürburgring than the Carrera GT, until now the recordholder. On board the 911 GT3 RS : a 4-litre six-cylinder engine delivering 500 hp and torque of 460 Nm, combined with a 7-speed Porsche Doppelkupplung gearbox. The most powerful direct injection atmospheric engine sees that it leaps from zero to 100 km/h in 3.3 seconds. Some functions are directly derived from racing : starting with gearshift paddles on the steering wheel and speed limitation effected via a Pit Speed control.
The roof is made of magnesium, while the front and rear fenders come in carbon fibre. The RS is 10 kilos lighter than the 911 GT3. Its lightweight roof allows for greater downforce and a high degree of driving stability. The lip of the front spoiler and the large rear stabilizer are impressive. The front wheel arch air outlets join the upper parts of the wings in the pure tradition of racing models. As for the tyres, they are wider than those fitted on other 911s.
The very sober passenger compartment is dominated by Alcantara leather. The bucket seats recall those made of carbon in the 918 Spyder. The standard Clubsport pack has head-rests bolted to the back of the seats, while the optional Sport Chrono comes with a built-in stopwatch and the Porsche Track Precision application, allowing for automatic recording of lap times via GPS which can be saved on your smartphone together with data including speed, braking and accelerating performance. French fans convinced by arguments offered by the 911 GT3 RS will be able to acquire their very own racing car as from May, as long as they are prepared to part with 184,925 € inc. VAT.
