Tesla Model Y, top in terms of range
With two independent electric motors, this SUV claims a high level of safety, seats up to seven adults thanks to its optional third row, and prides itself on range attaining 540 km, the highest of any sport utility vehicle on the road.
The Californian manufacturer’s crossover offers a choice of four configurations : Standard, Long Range RWD, Dual Motor AWD, and Performance, mounted on 18, 19 or 20’’ wheels, equally at ease in the rain, snow, mud, and off the beaten track. It offers excellent road-holding under all circumstances, accelerates from 0 to 100 km/h in just 3.7 seconds for the fastest, with a top speed of 241 km/h. It shares the same platform as the Model 3, but is not so fast. No risks are taken in terms of safety : the low centre of gravity, rigid body structure and large crumple zones provide unparalleled protection. Just like 360° visibility, thanks to cameras, and the forward-facing radar offering a long-distance view (160 metres). The 12 ultrasonic sensors detect nearby vehicles, and assist with parking. Automatic emergency braking, collision warning and blind-spot monitoring are all standard features guaranteeing reassurance.
Inside the Tesla Model Y, versatility is the key word : seats on the second row fold flat independently, a third row can be installed as desired, and easy access to the trunk with its low floor makes loading and unloading easy. A special mention for the audio system : 14 speakers, a subwoofer and 2 amplifiers for immersive sound.
Prices start from 58,000 €, or 70,000 € for the high-performance version. The first orders were taken just a few weeks ago and the first deliveries are scheduled for the fall of 2020. For fans of all-electric cars, the Californian brand’s simulator is now functioning.
