The new Lexus LS 500H sedan takes the stage
Its self-charging hybrid system matches power with smoothness. Safety and comfort benefit from cutting-edge technologies, while the interior pays tribute to traditional Japanese Takumi craftsmanship.
At the end of 2020, Lexus celebrated its 30th anniversary. Three years after the launch of the fifth generation, the new sedan has been treated to new equipment, reinforcing its role as the brand’s flagship model. Available as 2WD or 4WD, it is powered by a 3.5-litre V6 gasoline engine paired with the Multistage Hybrid System. Now softer and more linear, acceleration equates with stability both in town and on mountain roads. The Hybrid battery provides more assistance for the electric motor, so the engine operates at lower rpm, allowing for even quieter running. Performance levels for the tyres, suspension and anti-roll bars, and design of the seats have all been enhanced. “In developing the new LS, we aimed for further evolution of the exceptional quietness and comfort that have been constant features of the LS since its first generation,” explains Toshio Asahi, the brand’s Chief Engineer. Appearing for the first time on the LS 500H 4WD Executive Innovation, the Advanced Park system with a memory function is fully automated. Safety equipment includes a 360° Panoramic View Monitor and a Pre-collison System which tightens seatbelts, corrects the trajectory and delivers emergency braking. A 12.3-inch touchscreen controls the multimedia system, and adjustment of the heated seats and steering wheel. The new LS 500H attains a top speed of 250 km/h and 0-100 km/h in 5.4 seconds.
Its restyled front bumper works well with the spindle grille with a new dark metallic finish to its inner surfaces. A special mention for the Lunar Silver paintwork which alternates brilliant highlights with deep shadowing, throwing the contours of the bodywork into sharp relief.
The interior provides scope for expression for the Takumi master craftsmen. The door panels are adorned with a woven organic pattern in black and silver inspired by waves shimmering in moonlight. The “Precious Metal & Matt Walnut Wood” insert gives pride of place to natural black-tinted wood.
