A wind of change

Here, the art of living is given pride of place. Artists' portraits, contemporary furnishings, decorative items, beauty products and restaurants meet everypossible desire.

Mazzoli is an address a bit like Russian dolls. At first glance, you basically discover sofas and armchairs. Not surprising, Mazzoli has been making them since 1969. Then you realize that the name hides many different skills, all related to home interiors : turn-key villas, restaurants and hotels. Examples include La Brasserie des Arts in Saint-Tropez, the Grand Hôtel and Villa d’Estelle in Cannes, the Villa 14 in Nice. Everywhere, plans turn into reality, both inside and out, for private clients or other entities. Design maintains an appealingly contemporary approach with the Mazzoli label as a bonus. If there’s one thing on which the brand will not compromise, it’s quality in both raw materials and the finish. For a simple divan or the entire decoration of a lounge or bedroom (including table, bed, doors and drapes), approximation and improvisation are out of the question. 20 rue Gubernatis (04 93 13 48 70) et 9 rue Macé (04 93 68 16 33).

New on the “decoclic” website ! Your order is dispatched via Colissimo in 48 hours. Since its creation in 2003, this is a website, or rather a home decor boutique on Internet, which has really evolved. www.decoclico.fr

Monaco An innovative concept in Europe, “Fashion for Floors” gives a starring role to contemporary carpets, making your floor a fashion victim. Nothing can be too beautiful for it : neither Himalayan wool, nor silk, leather or fur. Originality and audacity preside over the creation of models from the “Vintage Patchwork” collection, old kilims re-worked by craftsmen in Istanbul : cut up, dyed or faded, then hand-sewn, they become unique works of art, both contemporary and timeless. Obtained from vegetable extracts, their colours offer incredible depth, 100 % natural. If perhaps the choice is too wide between the various collections, order your carpet “à la carte”. 150 colours in wool, 36 in silk, in the sizes you require. For simplicity and refinement. 41 boulevard des Moulins (00 377 92 16 12 16).

Mats Theselius definitely has “Swedish attitude”. Far from cut and dried functionalism, this designer superimposes styles and materials. As witnessed by “Theselius Tra” for Nordic Design, curvy armchairs in noble woods (birch or oakwood) and comfortably padded. The half-moon seat and back are an invitation to face-to-face encounters, romantic or otherwise. www.nordicdesign.fr

“Nature Provocante” and “Empire Floral”, two ways of expressing winter in minimalist or opulent bouquets. The first is all sensuality and seduction, in shades of rose and violet (anthurium, orchids, roses, dahlias) combined with brown and chocolate, leather, latex and velvet. The second offers all the romanticism and elegance of white and rose, which dare to team up with red and violet (amaryllis, ranunculus, carnation, arum) in vases in the shape of bowls. Bouquets of real solemnity. www.fleursunpeubeaucoup.com

Introducing a team of twelve headed by Dominique and Claude Caramalli, and a patented trademark. On the one hand, professionals capable of handling everything from design to implementation of your project, on the other, a label encompassing the lines “Méridienne”, “Latine”, “Contemporaine”, and a “line for water, indoors and out”. All marked by an inimitable personality not nourished by passing fads, but inspired by the Caramallis’ own travels and exper-ience. A guarantee of authenticity. 19 chemin des Travails, Cagnes-sur-Mer (04 93 730 333).

Launched in 1971, the first Stressless armchair, designed to adapt to the human body, met with resounding success thanks to its comfort and revolutionary functions. Three decades later, it is branching out, proposing sofas but also a “Stressless Home Cinema” collection. The armchairs are individually adjustible and, thanks to the “Plus System”, they provide ideal support for the neck and lumbar region. Better still, in the arm-rest of the “Sphinx Stressless” sofa, there’s a storage unit for remote controls. Meubles Henri Canu, 231 avenue Aristide-Briand, Roquebrune-Cap-Martin (04 93 57 65 90).

Zara Home is above all a concept, a life-style. Each season, this address for home decor and linen proposes collections with strong personalities. This winter, the store in Aix thus displays two main trends : ethnic and white. The first recalls oriental opulence, hues ranging from golden beige to salmon, copper to lacquer red. Sheets, bedspreads and cushions are adorned with refined floral patterns, printed or hand-embroidered. You’ll also find a palette on which violet rubs shoulders with mauve and turquoise in shimmering prints. Then there’s white, timeless and always in season. It comes in lace, panels, embroidered and all kinds of patterned items, bed linen of contemporary romanticism. Combined with écru, sand or grey, it finds its way into geometric, linear and check prints both elegant and “design”. Fabrics include eternal cotton, trendy linen, sublime satin and velvet. www.zarahome.com

Boussac and Castelbajac is a long, long story. Today, it continues with Pierre Frey and Jean-Charles de Castelbajac, in a collection of fabrics “JC de Castelbajac pour Boussac”. The designer has invented “Cache Cache” (camouflage), “Marquis de la Paillette” (impertinent), “Ne dessine pas sur les murs” (a newspaper with lots of little drawings) and “Il était une fois” (with the master’s life summed up in a few lines). 92 boulevard Carnot, Le Cannet (04 93 46 22 79).

Times are changing ! For proof, you now have easy access to art by simply visiting Galeries Lafayette. Frédéric Presles has repeated his experience in Marseille by installing a contemporary art-gallery at the heart of Cap 3000. It’s impossible to miss ! Difficult also to ignore the works, some of them monumental, which have taken their place on the central stairs. The challenge is audacious : to make art accessible to as many people as possible and enable everyone to become the owner of an artwork, thanks to competitive prices. Esthetes and collectors can rest assured : the gallery also exhibits pieces that only a few privileged clients could afford. More than a gallery, the concept democratises art while retaining its letters of nobility.
