A sunny forecast for the must-have resorts of Courchevel and Me´ribel. The world's largest ski domain, luxury hotels and boutiques, a loyal international clientele... All the signs are green for go.


Je´ro^me Lagoutte runs the three Savills de la Tarentaise agences (Moriond, Courchevel 1850 and Me´ribel) with a total team of eight. Moriond, La Tania, Courchevel 1500, 1650 and Le Praz are seeing an especially lively market with budgets from 500,000 to 2 million euros, giving access to apartments with two to four bedrooms. The very select neighbourhood of Le Belve´de`re in the village of Moriond defies all market logic with its very prestigious chalets, often as highly-prized as those of 1850. Demand indeed focuses more on the famous 1850, and clients are always well-prepared : they want this hallmark address and are ready to pay the price. Among the latest Savills 1850 sales, Jérôme Lagoutte mentions an apartment of 240 m2 at 30,000 € per sq.m and a chalet of 420 m2 at 40,000 € per sq.m. Up to 10 million euros, French and foreign buyers have an equal share in the resorts. Above that price, 70 % are international, mostly Europeans joined by Middle Eastern and Asian buyers. Facing full south, with a fir forest, an authentic lifestyle and a central location in the midst of Les Trois Vallées, Me´ribel wins all the votes, while Mottaret presents a choice of properties which are gradually being renovated and new residences from 12,000 to 17,000 € per sq.m. Since the Covid crisis, summers have greeted numerous fans of nature and tranquillity. Despite economic and political crises, it is time for optimism in these resorts. The rate of occupancy for seasonal rentals is at its peak, and visits are posting a brisk pace.
